Children’s Sunday School is open, without charge, to all children ages 6 months thru Grade 5. Teachers are trained volunteers who love children, are committed to their spiritual nurture, and serve as faith journey companions. Children are placed in classes based on their age or school grade as of Sept. 1 of current year.
Infants and toddlers form awareness of themselves, their importance as a child of God, and a sense of relationship to other children and adults. The lessons stimulate all the senses and emphasize God’s love and the beauty of creation. The activities stimulate all the sense and emphasize God’s love and the beauty of creation.
Children experience and wonder about the Bible stories through storytelling with tangible materials. After the story they interact with and respond to the stories by choosing from a variety of activities such as art, building, movement or music These lessons cultivate an awareness and appreciation for God’s presence and encourage the children to embrace and own the stories as their own.”
In this class the students and teachers have a direct impact on Children First Worship by planning multiple parts of the service. Each month, this community of students will engage with the upcoming theme by connecting what we do in Worship to what we read in the Bible and how we live our lives. Third graders each receive a Bible from the Westlake UMC community in the fall.
