Director of Family Ministries
We are accepting applications for both full-time and part-time candidates for this position. Please indicate your preference in your application.
SUMMARY - The Director of Family Ministries will develop and implement a strategic Family Ministries program that nurtures the faith formation of children, youth, and their families. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with staff and lay leadership to build meaningful relationships and create a welcoming and inclusive community for all. This role invites families and volunteer leaders to engage in a lifelong journey of spiritual growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Listening: this individual will spend time listening to and connecting with parents, caregivers, children, and youth. The insight gathered will inform and shape ministries and programs.
- Relationships: significant time will be spent building relationships with parents, caregivers, children, youth, staff, and volunteers, and members of the church in order to build community and deepen commitment to the vision and work of Westlake UMC
- Volunteer Support: build and maintain teams/committees to support faithful ministries at Westlake
- Programmatic design and support: Includes, for example, Sunday School, Summer Bible Camp, Confirmation, Mission Trips, Community Engagement, Worship Participation of children and youth, Nursery, Wonderfully Made
- Pastoral Care: provides compassionate care for children, youth, college students, and families in a spirit of openness. Handles sensitive issues while respecting confidences and boundaries.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES - Supervise two permanent, part-time associates: Nursery Coordinator and Family Ministry Coordinator. Supervise temporary, part-time Youth Ministry Interns when applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Bachelor’s degree in education or religious studies (or equivalent) or 5 years of experience or a combination of both. A supportive understanding of United Methodist doctrine and theology.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Be able to make effective presentations in small or large groups of children, youth, and adults. Can communicate effectively in writing information for publication including, email, educational materials, and newsletters. Prepare liturgy and lead worship as needed.
